What Happens When You Actually Hear God's Message
Most of us don't struggle to hear God's voice — we struggle with what happens after.
""Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.""
— Isaiah 55:6-7
There's a moment in the video where I talk about a conversation I had with someone who said, "I keep praying and praying, but I don't hear anything." And I asked them a question that stopped us both: "What if you did? Would you actually be ready for what comes next?"
That's the tension nobody talks about. We're so focused on whether God is speaking that we forget to ask whether we're prepared to listen — really listen, in a way that changes things.
In Isaiah 55, God doesn't whisper. He calls out openly. He says, "Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters." This isn't a quiet, hidden message meant only for spiritual elite. It's a public invitation. And the strange part? The invitation includes a warning: "Why do you spend your breath for what does not satisfy?"
That question cuts because it assumes you've been trying. You've been spending energy on things that leave you empty. And God is saying, "I know. Come to something better."
But here's what catches people: listening to God isn't passive. It requires showing up with intention. It means slowing down long enough to let truth land in your bones instead of sliding off your surface. Most of us are so noise-filled that even if God spoke clearly, we'd miss it.
The invitation isn't to strain harder. It's to draw near — and to believe that when you do, you will find what you're looking for.
There's an illustration in today's video about what that actually looks like in real life that I couldn't fit here. If something in this devotional caught your attention, I think the conversation will be worth five minutes of your day.
A prayer
Father, we confess that we often look for answers in all the wrong places. We spend our energy on what leaves us empty. Today, we pause. We slow down. We turn our attention toward You, knowing that You are near and that You are speaking. Give us ears to hear and courage to respond. Help us not to treat Your invitation as casual, but as the lifeline it truly is. We come to You with open hands, trusting in Your unfailing love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
