God's Message For You: You Are Already Known
What if God isn't distant — what if He's been speaking all along, and we just need to recognize His voice?
""My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.""
— John 10:27
There's a particular kind of silence that settles over us when we feel like God has gone quiet. We pray, we wait, we check our phones for an answer that never comes — and we wonder if we've somehow slipped out of range. Maybe you've been there. Maybe you're there now.
Here's the part of that story we often miss: Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice." Not someday. Not if you're faithful enough. He said they listen — present tense, active relationship. He's not waiting for you to earn His attention. He's already watching, already speaking, already leaning toward you in love.
That image matters. Sheep don't wander into God's presence by accident. They follow. They listen. And the Good Shepherd doesn't just call out occasionally — He keeps speaking, day after day, through Scripture, through the still small voice in your chest, through the circumstances that strip away everything but what matters most. You may have missed the message because you were looking for fireworks. God tends to speak in whispers and ordinary moments.
There's a woman in the gospels — well, several, actually — who approached Jesus in the middle of her own chaos. A bleeding woman who had spent everything on treatments that didn't work. She didn't yell. She didn't perform. She simply reached out and touched the edge of His garment. And He stopped. He turned. He said, "Daughter, your faith has made you well."
That's the kind of attention you're not too far away to receive.
There's a story in today's video about someone who almost missed what God was saying because they were waiting for something louder. I think you might relate. If this stirred something, sit with the video for five minutes.
The Shepherd is speaking. He's already whispering your name.
A prayer
Father, I confess that I have sometimes felt outside the circle of Your attention. Forgive me for looking for You in the wrong places, and for failing to recognize when You were already near. Help me to slow down and listen — to distinguish Your voice from the noise. Thank You that You are not distant, and that You already know my name. Give me the quietness I need to hear You today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
